Learning to code

So i’ve decided to take on the challenge of learning to code.  I arrived at this decision after 12 years of dealing with software developers for my SaaS businesses.  I finally realized that instead of bitching and complaining about how and to what extent they work, I could have put all that time & energy into just becoming one myself.  Isn’t hindsight grand?

So after doing extensive research on which programming language to start with and what the best methods are to learn, I’ve decided to start by taking all the courses available at Code Academy.  This should be a nice primer to determine if I have an aptitude for coding or if I’m going to utterly loathe it.  Assuming I enjoy it, I plan to take more courses available at Tree House and then enroll for a course at Coursera.com and those available through iTunesU from Stanford, MIT & Harvard.  My goal is to eventually assist in the development of a mobile application for my SaaS company.  Then eventually help port our entire application to another development stack.

Went with the wife to see Better Than Ezra play @ our local Zoo.  We had a great time.

37 already?

I turned 37 on the 17th.  Had a great day.  My wife made me our traditional birthday pancakes in the shape of my age.  Then my 4 daughters presented me with both hand-made as well as purchased gifts.  Later, my wife and I went out to the movies, saw Inception and grabbed dinner.  I’m looking forward to this year.  For some reason, I get the feeling it will be a great one.

Big milestone today in my business.  We officially began our customer beta testing today of the next version of our web application.  Almost 3 years of development to get to this point.  If all goes as expected with testing, we will launch the our new version at a major convention in Dallas this summer.  Though I’ve enjoyed the project management role, I’m really ready to put on my marketing and business building hat for awhile.

Grimy Styles - sound czech

I don’t go searching for new music very often.  On this occasion I got lucky.  Take a listen.  Give the linked page a second to start the music.  It starts out quiet at first.
